Even the ground on the inside of the glacier is ice. With a unique lighting system fascinating light effects are produced. Mystical sounds make the experience even more unreal, yet even more beautiful. For the kids you will find models from the movie “Ice Age” carved from ice. These figures weigh up to 700 kgs. Originally the figures were made for an exhibition in northern Germany, but because the weather was a bit too hot for Diego, Sid, Manny and Scrat they were moved to a natural habitat a bit more suited to their molecules - the inside of the Dachstein Glacier.
It took over a year to finish the ice palace in the Dachstein Glacier. The detailed work was undertaken by five famous ice carvers from China. It took many weeks to create the mammoth, the pillar walks, the entrance portals, the throne room and the detailed figures. This summer you will find a special exhibition about football, where the most famous and funniest moments of football have been carved into the ice.
The loop walk within the ice palace is informative and interesting. At the entrance you will learn how a glacier is created and how it is possible to create such an ice palace. The ice palace at the Dachstein glacier is definitely one of the greatest highlights on the list of day-trip destinations. The ice-show at the Dachstein is open throughout the whole year and in any weather.
Don’t just visit the ice palace when the weather god is not happy – this magical place is worth a visit even in blazing sunshine – and will perhaps provide some sought-after cool air.
