Every year between New Year’s Day and the 6th of January gorgeous vintage cars and living skiing legends honour the Schladming skiing region with a visit. The Planai Classic combines old-timer car rallies and ski races.
The Planai Classic, just like the Ennstal Classic is one of the most beloved vintage car events in Austria. Shortly after New Year’s, classic car enthusiasts and ski-sport fans meet in Schladming to join forces for a rather unique event. First the motor sport lovers prove that their classic cars are worth their horse power then the living skiing legends show their artful skill on the pistes.
The official event rules state that only cars built before 1973 are allowed to enter. The starting field is limited with 55 old-timers, which makes the Planai Classic one of the most elite classic car races around. The careful selection of different vehicles brings a wide range of different car makes and models to the starting line. A number of great legends of motor sport can be seen live at the Planai Classic.
On the first day of the Planai Classic the old-timer race passes through the idyllic scenery of Styria and Salzburg. On the second day a mountain test with two runs awaits the classic car-loving drivers. Once all the cars have been safely parked near the Hohenhaus Tenne, the ski race can finally begin. Living skiing legends prove that they have not lost their famous skills when racing each other down the hills in the night slalom. The award ceremony is the crowning moment of this famous classic car event in Schladming, Austria.
